Dioxins, Furans, & PCBs
Phase 1
Thirteen total sites were chosen for ambient air
monitoring under the California Ambient Dioxin Air Monitoring Program
(CADAMP). The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD)
provided data for the San Francisco site (Arkansas Street) which they
maintained and operated. The remaining 12 CADAMP sites were maintained
and operated by the Air Resources Board with assistance from BAAQMD and
the South Coast Air Quality Managment District. The individual
monitoring sites are listed below. Monitoring in Sacramento and
San Francisco only occurred in 2003 and 2004.
Phase 2
At the end of 2004, all sites were shut down. In January 2005, one site in the Bay Area, Livermore, and one
site in the South Coast, Rubidoux, resumed sampling along with a new site in the San Joaquin Air Basin, Fresno
First Street. An additional San Joaquin site, Fresno Five Points, was added in June 2005. Livermore and
Rubidoux were shut down permanently after the December 2005 sampling period. At the Fresno First Street and
Fresno Five Points sites, sampling continued through May 2006.
PBDE monitoring
Phase 1
In 2003-2004, PBDE monitoring was conducted at seven urban sites (four
in the Bay Area and three in the South Coast). The locations chosen
were Oakland/Fruitvale, Richmond, San Jose, San Francisco, Boyle Heights,
Rubidoux, and Wilmington. Data are available for six months of 2003 and the entire year of 2004.
Phase 2
At the end of 2004 all sites were shut down. In January 2005, one site in the South Coast, Rubidoux, resumed
sampling along with a Bay Area Site, Livermore, which added PBDE sampling. In addition, two new sites for
PBDE monitoring were added in the San Joaquin Valley at Fresno First Street (beginning January 2005) and Fresno
Five Points (beginning June 2005). Monitoring at both of these sites ended in May 2006. Monitoring at Livermore
and Rubidoux were shut down permanently after the December 2005 sampling period.
Various information can be
obtained for each site below. The
summaries provide information on the exact locations and reasons for
choosing the sites. The Quality Assurance (QA) site information
page provides data on other pollutants monitored at each site.
