Site Description
Naval Air Weapons Center
(NAWC), Baker Monitoring Site
The Baker monitoring site is located on the
NAWC, 9-10 miles
east of highway 14, 8-10 miles west of the dry China Lake and 8-10 miles north of the town of Ridgecrest, California.
The site is located in flat terrain with no obstructions for several hundred meters in all directions.
A monitoring shelter with power, telephone, and security is readily available at the monitoring site. The
NAWC, according to Mr. Finlinson, would be willing to accommodate the additional equipment, if requested by the
CRPAQS, to support the study. The site currently has a instrumented 10-meter meteorological tower, a
TEOM,
and a nephelometer.
The site has been used over numerous years during various air quality monitoring programs
with an excellent historical data base. The site would provide data that could provide intercomparisons
between the instruments currently present at the site and the study’s samplers.
