Photo of Phil Serna Supervisor Serna was elected to serve on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in June 2010.

In addition to his service on the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Serna participates on a number of other boards and commissions including chairing the Sacramento First Five Commission, Sacramento Area Flood Control District, and Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality District and serving on the boards of Sacramento Regional Transit, Sacramento Area Council of Governments, Sacramento Solid Waste Authority, and Sacramento Library Authority.

After completing his undergraduate studies at California State University, Sacramento (1992), Supervisor Serna earned a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (1994). Following graduate school, he took a position in the Bay Area with the Home Builders Association of Northern California as its Vice President of Governmental Affairs managing research and advocacy efforts relative to urban planning, environmental mitigation, and regional cooperation. After returning to Sacramento in 2003, the Supervisor established his own project management firm offering clients a variety of project management services including advocacy and government relations.

When Supervisor Serna isn’t working or playing music with several local bands, he commits his time and energy serving on the Board of Directors for the SCUSD Serna Center and for Cottage Housing Incorporated, a local non-profit transitional housing provider.

Supervisor Serna and his wife, Roxanna, reside in Sacramento.
