The staff updated the Board on selected Research and ICAT projects. Investigators for the projects made the presentations to the Board. They were:

Professor John Peters, University of Southern California Children's Health Study

Ms. Jacqueline Ayer, Air Quality Specialists, Inc. Dynamic Recirculation/Fluidized Bed Solvent Recovery

Mr. Lance Balcom, Westport Innovations, Inc. Injector System for Natural Gas Fueling of a Diesel Transit Bus

99-1-2 Public Meeting to Consider a Summary of the 1999 Rulemaking Calendar

SUMMARY OF AGENDA ITEM:

A summary of each of the items listed on the 1999 Air Resources Board Calendar was presented to the Board and the public. The rulemaking calendar sets forth the Board's regulatory agenda for 1999.

A brief summary was also given regarding the rulemaking procedures and legal requirements according to the state Administrative Procedure Act (APA).

Closed Session - Litigation

The Board held a closed session as authorized by Government Code section 11126 subdivisions (e)(1) and (e)(2)(A) to confer with, or receive advice from, its legal counsel regarding litigation -- Coalition for Clean Air, Inc. v. South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), et al.

FORMAL BOARD ACTION:

The Board approved a motion directing and authorizing the Executive Officer to sign a proposed Settlement Agreement in this litigation, on behalf of the ARB defendants, and to take appropriate action in the future to implement the Settlement Agreement.
