Champions will be notified prior to the interview weekend, scheduled for February 22-25, 2008.What happens next? Champions will be invited to interview at one of two locations. Travel costs associated with the interviews will be reimbursed. The purpose of these interviews is to learn more about you and your enthusiasm for the issue. The judges will also be looking for team players; we want to find young people who will work well with their fellow champions and others. Of the 20 California Climate Champions interviewed, three (and some alternates) will be selected to represent the United States during all-expenses-paid trips to London, U.K., March 24-30, 2008, and Kobe, Japan, May 18-25. The London event will include an opportunity to meet Climate Champions from other countries and prepare for the Japan trip, where the champions will participate in a youth component of a meeting among environment ministers of the G8 countries. What is my role as a champion? California Climate Champions will participate in a range of activities and events, some of which might be meeting with people involved in climate change work, giving media interviews and helping develop an online community where others from across the state or even the country can be engaged. This network will be great for exchanging ideas on how to communicate about climate change, learning about what others are doing and building a statewide network of communicators. What if I'm not selected for the international trips? Don't worry you'll be busy with exciting activities in California such as:
