Verification Procedure - Level 2
This page last reviewed November 16, 2009
LEVEL 2 verification is for those technologies achieving at least 50 percent or greater reduction in particulate matter. If the technology also includes NOx reduction, it will be stated in the description. Please read the executive order(s) below which provide additional information on the applicability of the device for your particular engine. Click on the link below each system for a list of engine families for which devices have been approved (engine series names are provided for reference in most cases). For more detailed information or to purchase the device, please contact the device manufacturer directly. New information will be posted as additional systems are verified. Please check periodically for updates.
Donaldson
Donaldson Company, Inc. DFM diesel multi-stage filter (DMF) system with / without the Donaldson Spiracle closed crankcase filtration system for 1991 through 2002 diesel engines used in on-road applications operating on ultra low sulfur diesel fuel. The DFM DMF system with / without the Donaldson Spiracle closed crankcase filtration system uses a multi-stage flow through filter with an optional closed crankcase filtration system to achieve a 50 percent reduction in particulate matter emissions qualifying it for a Level 2 verification. Specific engine families and conditions for which the DFM DMF system with / without the Donaldson Spiracle closed crankcase filtration system has been approved may be found in the Executive Order and attachment below.

Lubrizol Engine Control Systems
The ARB has verified Lubrizol Engine Control Systems PuriNOx and AZ Purimuffler or AZ Purifier System for 1996 through 2002 diesel engines used in off-road applications specifically at the ports, railway yards and other intermodal / freight handling operation applications only. The PuriNOx and AZ Purimuffler or AZ Purifier System uses a diesel oxidation catalyst and an emulsified diesel fuel to achieve a 50 percent reduction in particulate matter emissions qualifying it for a Level 2 verification. The system also achieves a 20 percent reduction in NOx emissions. Specific engine families and conditions for which the PuriNOx and AZ Purimuffler or AZ Purifier System has been approved may be found below.

Proventia
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has verified the Proventia FTF Level 2 Plus flow-through filter, which can be used to comply with the Low-Emission TRU In-Use Performance Standard (LETRU) on most Thermo King trailer TRUs using 1985 through 2002 model year engines. The Proventia FTF consists of a catalyzed knitted wire mesh flow-through filter with backpressure control system, an exhaust system insulation package, and a backpressure warning indicator. ARB has also verified the Bobtail FTF, which can be used to comply with LETRU on select Thermo King truck TRUs using 1987 through 2002 model year engines. The Proventia Bobtail FTF consists of a catalyzed knitted wire mesh flow-through filter and a backpressure warning indicator. Specific engine models and families that apply are listed in the attachment below.

Rypos
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has verified the Rypos' DPF/LETRU™ (Level 2 Plus) diesel particulate filter, which can be used to comply with the Low-Emission TRU (LETRU) In-Use Performance Standard on most trailer TRUs using 2002 and older model year engines. The Rypos DPF/LETRUTM consists of active flow-through filters made out of an electrically conductive sintered metal fiber medium. It is microprocessor controlled with a backpressure control system, an electrical control circuit, and a backpressure warning indicator. TRU owners should read about the specific conditions for which the DPF/LETRUTM has been approved in the Executive Order, below. Specific engine models and families that apply are listed in the attachment below.
