310-304-1600-0000 (81976) Oil Production Fugitive Losses - Fittings

METHOD SUMMARY

These categories include the fugitive TOG emissions for 1987 from valves and fittings (threaded and flanged connections) associated with oil production operations.

ACTIVITY DATA SOURCE: 1987 lease data, from the California Division Oil and Gas (DOG), wasused to determine the number of wells on each lease and the gas to oil ratios (GORs) for these wells. The gas to oil ratio represents the cubic feet of hydrogen gas produced per barrel of oil produced. These data were incorporated into the computer algorithm described below.

EMISSION FACTOR SOURCE: The emission factors were derived from two sources. General oil and gas production emission factors were obtained from Rockwell International's report,"Fugitive Hydrocarbon Emissions from Petroleum Production Operations" (March 1980). KVBIncorporated, in its report "Emission Characteristics of Crude Oil Production Operations inCalifornia" (January 1983), based its composite emission factors for valves and fittings on a 1979-80 field study of California oil production operations. Oil fields were grouped by KVB into certainclassifications based on several parameters. Representative fields from each group wereselected. Leases within each field were then selected for survey.

From KVB's results and Rockwell's emission factors, ARB created a computer algorithm to calculate emission factors for six different lease models. The lease models were differentiated based on thenumber of operating wells and the GOR. For each lease model a per well emission factor was calculated. Separate emission factors per well were developed for gas, liquids, mixture andcondensate service valves and fittings. Fugitive valve and fitting emissions were calculated for eachlease using the DOG data on the number of wells and the GORs.

TEMPORAL DATA:

The annual, weekly, and daily activities are uniform throughout the year, seven days a week, and twenty-four hours a day.

DATE OF THE LAST UPDATE: January 1990

GROWTH PARAMETER:

Dollar output for oil and gas extraction (SIC 13).(SJVUAPCD parameter is based on barrels of oil.)
