The Air Resources Board (CARB) Enforcement Program routinely issues actions against polluters ranging from minor violations such as smoking heavy-duty vehicles to major violations. Listed below are news releases from some of the CARB's larger enforcement actions. 11-24-09The Air Resources Board fined Washington-based Cablecom $19,800 for failing to inspect their diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
11-17-09The Air Resources Board penalized Donaldson Company, Inc. $650,000 for selling mislabeled and illegal parts throughout California in 2007, with required corrective actions costing over $1.5 million bringing the total costs to over $2.1 million for the company.
11-16-09The Air Resources Board fined JLG Harvesting Inc., $21,500 for emissions violations during 2005 and 2006 at its Salinas, Calif., terminal.

11-09-09The Air Resources Board fined a Santa Maria, Calif., based company $21,675 for failing to inspect its diesel trucks at a Salinas fleet center for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
10-26-09The Air Resources Board fined waste removal company EDCO Disposal Corporation $219,500 for emissions violations during 2005 and 2006.
10-23-09The Air Resources Board fined Montebello-based waste hauler Key Disposal, Inc., $500,000 for failing to adequately inspect its fleet and retrofit some of its vehicles with diesel filters as required by State law.
10-21-09The Air Resources Board fined Pacific Petroleum $21,000 for emissions violation during 2006 and 2007.
10-12-09The Air Resources Board fined the city of San Buenaventura, also known as Ventura, $8,500 for diesel emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007.

09-03-09The Air Resources Board fined First Student, Inc., formerly Laidlaw, $300,000 for desel emissions violations of its school bus fleet that occurred in 2005 and 2006 at locations thoughout California.
08-31-09The Air Resources Board fined Sunbelt Rentals $98,500 for emissions violations in 2007 and 2008 around the state.
08-31-09The Air Resources Board fined fined two San Diego-area motorcycle dealers $180,000 for illegal sales.
08-18-09The Air Resources Board fined the city of Fresno $49,500 for diesel emissions violations at multiple fleet centers and entered into a settlement that will bring the city's fleet of diesel vehicles into compliance with state regulations ahead of the mandated schedule.
08-13-09Thanks to an investigation launched by the ARB in 2006, the Los Angeles County Superior Court in June issued a $1.875 million judgment against several companies for importing and selling non-California certified motorcycles and off-road recreational vehicles.

07-08-09The Air Resources Board has fined Home Design/Lifestyle Furniture of Fresno $5,500 for diesel truck emission violations that occurred in 2007 and 2008.
06-24-09The Air Resources Board reached a settlement with AutoZone West, Inc. for $90,000 in March for selling non certified aftermarket catalytic converters from AutoZone stores in California.
06-18-09The Air Resources Board fined the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System $47,750 for diesel vehicle emissions violations.
06-17-09 The Air Resources Board fined the Monsanto Company $4,000 for diesel engine emissions violations that occurred in 2007 and 2008 at fleet centers in San Juan Bautista and Williams, California. 
06-01-09 The Air Resources Board fined Robertson's Ready Mix $65,700 for diesel truck emissions violations during 2007 and 2008 at its Southern California facilities including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and San Diego Counties.
06-01-09 The Air Resources Board fined Silver State Trailways $15,750 for diesel engine emissions violations that occurred in 2007 and 2008.
05-21-09 The Air Resources Board fined the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority $162,000 for diesel vehicle emission violations during 2006 and 2007 at its Los Angeles terminals.
05-21-09 The Air Resources Board fined United Rental Inc. $166,800 for diesel emissions violations that occurred throughout the state in 2007 and 2008.
05-11-09 The Air Resources Board fined Sunrise Ford, a dealership with outlets in North Hollywood and Fontana, $175,000 for illegally modifying 2005 through 2007 model year light- and medium-duty vehicles with an aftermarket device before the vehicles were sold.
05-07-09 The Air Resources Board has fined Sierra Pacific Industries for diesel truck emissions violations 2007 and 2008.
04-16-09 The Air Resources Board fined Nissan Motor Company $4.4 million for failing to meet requirements concerning the diagnostic equipment that monitors tailpipe emissions on most of its 2005-2007 models - more than 450,000 vehicles.
04-08-09 The Air Resources Board recently fined a Central Valley environmental services company $14,250 for diesel smoke emissions violations.
04-02-09 The Air Resources Board fined an Antioch, California cement company $10,875 for failing to inspect its diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emission standards.
04-02-09 The Air Resources Board has fined Minatta Transportation of Cotati, California $8,500 this month for diesel truck emission violations that occurred in 2007.
04-02-09 The Air Resources Board fined a consortium of sand car sellers $600,000 for its members' illegal engine and vehicle sales between 2006 and 2008.
03-30-09 The Air Resources Board fined the Temecula Valley Unified School District $18,500 for failing to inspect its diesel truck and bus fleet in 2006 and 2007.
03-30-09 The Air Resources Board fined the Ventura County Transportation Commission $5,000 for excess diesel emissions in its transit vehicle fleet.
03-30-09 The Air Resources Board fined Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus $21,000 for failing to test, measure and maintain records of smoke emissions from its heavy duty diesel transit fleet in 2006 and 2007.
03-27-09 The Air Resources Board fined Loomis Armored US $16,000 for failing to properly inspect its diesel trucks in 2007 and 2008.
03-20-09 The Air Resources Board fined Britz-Simplot Grower Solutions $16,500 for diesel truck emission violations throughout it's Central Valley facilities.
03-17-09 The Air Resources Board fined a Los Angeles area waste collection company $22,500 for emissions violations in 2007.
03-17-09 The Air Resources Board has fined Tulare County Area Transit $5,250 for failure to inspect its diesel bus fleet for smoke emissions during 2006 and 2007.
03-12-09 The Air Resources Board fined a Pleasanton, CA soil stabilization company $12,000 for failure to inspect their diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
03-10-09 The Air Resources Board fined an Imperial County crop harvesting company $10,000 for diesel truck emission violations.
03-04-09 The Air Resources Board fined a San Joaquin Valley public transit agency $6,500 for excessive diesel emissions and record keeping violations.
03-02-09 The Air Resources Board has fined Victor Valley Transit Authority $3,500 for failure to inspect its diesel truck fleet for smoke emission during 2006.
02-23-09 The Air Resources Board has fined an Oxnard-based trucking firm $6,000 for diesel truck emission violations that occurred in 2006.
02-17-09 The Air Resources Board has fined San Francisco-based Bajaj USA $4,350 for selling imported motor scooters with incorrect emissions labels.
02-17-09 The Air Resources Board has fined the City of Carmarillo $5,250 for diesel truck inspections violations in 2006 and 2007.
02-11-09 The Air Resources Board fined a southern California transit authority $17,500 for excessive diesel emissions and recordkeeping violations.
01-26-09The Air Resources Board fined Rite Aid Corporation $340,000 for violations of clean air regulations that require only windshield-washer fluid with specific chemical formulas be sold in California.
01-09-09 The Air Resources Board has fined CSK Auto, Inc $600,000 for selling windshield washers fluid throughout the state that does not comply with the state's clean air regulations.
12-10-08 The Air Resources Board announced that it has fined Command Delivery System $54,000 for air quality violations at the company's Walnut, Calif., terminal.
11-17-08 The Air Resources Board fined the City of Oxnard $12,375 for diesel emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007.
11-04-08 The Air Resources Board fined the City of Palmdale this week $18,500 for diesel emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007.
10-30-08 The Air Resources Board fined security company Dunbar Armored, based in Hunt Valley, Md., $36,375 for diesel truck emission violations at numerous locations in the Bay Area and Southern California.
10-27-08 The Air Resources Board fined Sears Holding Corporation $600,000 for selling portable fuel containers and windshield washer fluid throughout the state that failed to meet Air emissions requirements.
10-17-08 The Air Resources Board fined a Fresno, Calif.-based farm service comply $114,000 last week for failing to inspect its truck fleet for diesel emission violations in 2006 and 2007 throughout the Valley.
10-01-08 The Air Resources Board fined Airgas, Inc., a multipurpose based in Radner, Penn., $43,000 for diesel truck emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007 throughout California.
09-29-08 The Air Resources Board has fined Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc., a hazardous waste disposal provider and cleaning products manufacturer, $43,500 for diesel truck emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007 throughout California.
09-26-08 The Air Resources Board fined Bimbo Bakeries USA of Fort Worth, Texas, $305,250 for truck fleet air quality violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007.
09-16-08 Shasta Nissan Subaru in Redding, Calif., was fined $34,750 by the Air Resources Board for illegally modifying engines from 2004 through 2007 on their light- and medium-duty vehicles with aftermarket parts before they were sold.
09-12-08 The Air Resources Board fined Munroes Motors of San Francisco $112,000 for illegal sales of off-road motorcycles.
09-12-08 In two separate cases, The Air Resources Board fined Illinois-based Navistar, Inc., more than $281,000 for clean-air violations.
09-05-08 The Air Resources Board has fined a Cameron Park, Calif., propane distributor $36,375 for diesel truck emissions violations.
08-12-08 The Air Resources Board has fined Clougherty Packing/Farmer John, of Los Angelers, $63,300 for failure to comply with diesel truck emissions and transport refrigeration unit requirement.
08-07-08 The Air Resources Board fined Universal Waste System, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., $13,500 for failing to inspect its diesel fleet for excess emissions and complying with state regulations for trash trucks.
07-29-08 The Air Resources Board fined DS Waters of America, Inc., $74,250 for violations of California's clean air laws that require heavy-duty vehicle owners to inspect their diesel fleets.
07-22-08 The Air Resources Board has fined Don E. Keith Transportation, a transportation firm based in Bakersfield, $9,750 for diesel truck emissions violations that occurred in 2005.
07-15-08 The Air Resources Board penalized Baja Motorsports for $14,000 for improperly labeling their Blitz mini-bikes without California emissions certification labels.
06-25-08 The Air Resources Board has fined the City of Pasadena $23,250 for diesel emissions violations that occurred in 2005.
06-05-08 The Air Resources Board has fined Henkels & McCoy, Inc., a construction firm based in Blue Bell, Penn. $10,000 for diesel emissions violations that occurred in 2006 and 2007 throughout California.
05-29-08 The Air Resources Board fined Apria Health Care headquartered in Lake Forest, Ca, $14,000 for violations of California's clean air laws requiring diesel fleet owners to maintain the exhaust systems of their truck engines.
05-20-08 The Air Resources Board fined Ohio-based Blaster Chemical Company $158,000 for selling illegal rust-removing spray around the state.
05-20-08 The Air Resources Board fined Regency Conversions of Fort Worth, Texas, $27,500 following the discovery of illegally modified vehicles for sale at five dealerships scattered throughout the state.
05-13-08 The Air Resources Board last week penalized Source Interlink and Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems for $41,625 for violations of California's Periodic Smoke Inspection Program, which requires owners of California-registered trucks to regularly inspect their vehicles to meet state air quality standards.
05-09-08 The Air Resources Board fined Costco Wholesale Corp., of Issaquah, Wash., $40,200 last week for failure to comply with state transport refrigeration unit laws.
05-05-08 The Air Resources Board last week imposed Crown Disposal Company, Inc., with more than $88,000 in fines for a two-year failure to inspect their diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards, and for violation of trash hauler rules.
05-01-08 Service Rock Products paid $42,000 to settle truck emissions violations that occurred in the high-desert area of California in 2005 and 2006.
04-21-08 The Air Resources Board closed over 3,400 enforcement actions totaling nearly $30 million in penalties against entities doing business in California in 2007, a five-fold increase over 2006 penalties that resulted in more than 100 tons of emissions reductions.
04-17-08 Mex-Cal Truckline, also known as Cal-Mex International Broker, Inc., has settled with the State Attorney General's Office for $50,000 for failing to comply with state air quality laws.
04-07-08 The Air Resources Board recently fined New Bern Transport Corporation, one of Pepsi Bottling Group's overland trucking contractors, $280,125 for violating air quality laws during 2006-2007.
02-14-08 C.K Transport of Lucerne Valley and VRGS Trucking of Fontana recently settled with the Air Resources Board for $4,000 and $4,125 respectively for failing to properly inspect their heavy duty diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
12-17-07 The Air Resources Board is warning consumers this holiday season to not purchase air purifiers or air cleaning devices that intentionally generate ozone. Consumers may unknowingly purchase these "ozone generators" from advertisers touting the so-called benefits of "activated oxygen' that can make the air inside your home "as fresh as the air after a thunderstorm."
12-11-07 Todd Plumbing, Inc. of Visalia recently settled with the Air Resources Board for $5,625 for failing to properly inspect its heavy duty diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
10-11-07 The Air Resources Board last month settled with A.L. Gilbert Co. and the City of Visalia for a total of more than $30,000 for failure to self-inspect their diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
10-10-07 Brinks, Inc., agreed to pay $147,000 in a settlement agreement with the Air Resources Board for failure to self-inspect their diesel trucks for compliance with the state's smoke emissions standards.
10-02-07 The ARB, U.S. EPA, and the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District today announced a $5 million settlement with Evergreen Pulp, Inc. which will protect air quality by reducing emissions of particulate matter and hazardous air pollutants from its Eureka wood pulp mill by approximately 340 tons annually.
08-22-07 The Air Resources Board recently reached a $700,000 settlement with auto manufacturer Saleen, Inc. of Irvine, California, for selling vehicles not certified to California regulations, which can affect tailpipe emissions and negatively impact air quality.
08-14-07 The Air Resources Board recently settled with four companies operating in California for a collective $321,875 for failing to properly inspect their diesel truck fleets.
08-06-07 Sierra Pacific Industries, a lumber company headquartered in Redding, California recently paid $13 million to settle allegations of air quality violations at four of the company's Sierra foothills sites.
07-31-07 The Air Resources Board announced today that it has negotiated a settlement with Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Los Angeles for $528,500 as a result of failure to properly inspect its diesel truck fleet for smoke emissions.
07-24-07 Union Pacific Railroad, headquartered in Omaha, NE, recently paid $120,000 for violations of regulations requiring companies to inspect and verify that their diesel trucks in California meet state exhaust limits.
03-30-07 The Air Resources Board has reached a $225,000 settlement with Macco Adhesives, owned by The Glidden Company, for their role in distributing in 316,231 units of Liquid Nails Clear Small Projects & Repair Adhesive with volatile organic compound emissions that exceeded clean air regulations.
03-12-07 The Air Resources Board has settled with Husqvarna Outdoor Products (HOP) for a total of $281,600 for selling engines in California that violate state air quality standards.
01-30-07 The Air Resources Board announced that Cummins Engine Company has paid $1,092,500 for allegedly violating its 1998 settlement agreement with CARB to perform clean air projects and certify its engines to reduce smog-forming emissions such as NOx (oxides of nitrogen).
01-26-07 The Air Resources Board has negotiated a settlement with Jesse James of West Coast Choppers for $271,250 for the sale of new and custom-built motorcycles that were not certified to the state's strict emissions standards.
