Twice each calendar year, SEIES staff based in both northern and southern California, conduct inspections at 32 rail yards to verify compliance with the ARB/Railroad Statewide Agreement. The Agreement provides for inspections of rail yards at most BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad (UP) facilities in California. During February 2011, SEIES staff received $4,400 in settlements for violations of the Agreement. These violations were documented during inspections that were conducted in the Fall of 2010. UP paid $800 for two violations and BNSF paid $3,600 for nine violations.
