MICHAELS OF OREGON SETTLEMENT FOR $2,800
On June 21, 2004, staff of the Consumer Products Enforcement section held a teleconference
with Michaels of Oregon who manufactures Hoppe's #9 Barrel Scrubber, an aerosol general-purpose degreaser. The
product was reformulated to meet the 50 percent by weight volatile organic compound (VOC) limit for aerosol general-purpose
degreasers and according to the company, the product continues to perform as advertised. The manufacturer sent
out a recall notice to their distributors to ensure that the non-compliant high VOC product was taken off the shelves
in California. The case was settled for $2,800 on July 6, 2004.
