RECKITT BENCKISER SETTLEMENT FOR $165,000
Reckitt Benckiser is a major manufacturer of many consumer products, including Energine Spot Remover. During routine
sampling, Energine Spot Remover was found for sale in various retail stores throughout California. Laboratory analysis
showed that the product had a volatile organic compound (VOC) content of almost 100 percent, which was in violation
of the 8 percent VOC limit. In addition, Reckitt Benckiser was unable to show compliance with the requirements
to display the date of manufacture on this product. The company removed the product from the market and settled
the case on October 29, 2004 for $165,00 in penalties.
