Smoking vehicles are detrimental to California's air quality. Here's how you can help reduce harmful air pollutants caused by smoking vehicles:

  • Keep up the maintenance on your own car, truck, or other vehicle. A well-maintained vehicle is a cleaner-running vehicle.
  • Report smoking vehicles on the roadway.

To report a smoking vehicle, you may submit a Complaint Form for Smoking Vehicles to the ARB, call the ARB or the local Air Pollution Control District, or call from a cell phone within greater California.

Please have this information ready to report:

  • Vehicle Type
  • License Plate Number
  • Date, Time, and Location of the Incident
  • Make and Model of the Vehicle

Call the Air Resources Board or the local Air Pollution Control District:

The following phone numbers are available in the regions listed:

Air Resources Board (throughout California) 1-800-END-SMOG
Bay Area AQMD 1-800-EXHAUST
San Diego County APCD 1-800-28-SMOKE
San Joaquin Valley Unified APCD 1-800-559-9AIR
Shasta County AQMD 1-888-249-SMOG
South Coast AQMD 1-800-CUT-SMOG
Ventura County APCD 1-800-559-SMOG

Call from a cell phone:

CELL PHONE USERS may now dial #SMOG to report smoking vehicles in greater California but this service is not available in all areas. Your call will automatically be routed to the proper air quality agency. This service is provided by your cellular phone carrier, your local air pollution control district, and the ARB.

Thank you for helping us improve California's air quality!
