Comment | Dear California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board I live in the L.A. South Bay area and have been impressed with the improvement made regarding trucks entering the L.A. Harbor Area and the strict enforcement for emissions. It is important for all of us living in the area to not have our lungs impacted with more diesel, gas with its nitrogen oxide and carbons polluting our air and water. The combining of the nitrogen oxide with the moisture that is common in our environment which burns the lung lining of human lungs and delicate eye tissues. I am particularly sensitive because I have asthma. We are very fortunate to not have coal burning power plants in our area, like in the Eastern U.S, but I have been reading how China is acting on their problem and are taking their dollars and moving fast toward developing Sun Energy. Because we have one of the largest harbor in the world at our door step we must acknowledge the importance to move ahead quickly to meet the needs of our economy, but in doing so protect the people on the west coastal area affected by cars and trucks moving through the area. It is my understanding that Mexico is planning (or is in the process) to build a harbor in Mexico and probably will pressure congress to extend roads up through Arizona, New Mexico,or Texas. California Legislature has kept their unregulated trucks out of our harbor. We can be an example by being diligent on this issue and protect our Harbor Business and the industry that the Harbor creates. California was a leader in smaller efficient cars, in catalytic converters, more efficient motors, cleaner burning fuels...let us be a letter today in building a cleaner California. Respectfully, Rose m. Schenck Business from leaving California. |
