Subject | Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets |
Comment | Dear Chair Nichols and Air Resource Board Members, Thank you for all your hard work in the implementation of SB 375. I believe that by the appropriate enforcement of this law, we will see a reduction in greenhouse gas(GHG) emission and more sustainable communities and transportation choices. As a person who values walkable and bikeable communities, accessible alternative transportation, and clean air, I urge you to adopt only GHG emission reduction targets that are ambitious and achievable. It would be a joy for me if I can spend less time on the freeways, save money on gas, and have more time with my children. These things can easily be achieved through compact community planning and affordable housing close to work, school, and community centers. I recently moved away from the Bay Area because of all the traffic and dirty air. It's not even the worst air quality in California, yet no one can take a walk in their neighborhoods without sucking in exhaust with every breath. The air is dirty and left thick layers of dust on my furniture daily. I love to walk, and I'm sure my lungs have suffered for living in that area for 7 years. I moved to the coast for better air quality. The sun is brighter here and there's less dust, and I want it to stay that way. In your upcoming meeting, please vote for ambitious GHG emission reduction targets, and achievable sustainble community plans. Thank you for all your hard work and for the opportunity to submit my comments. Sincerely, Kathy Hawkins |
