Subject | ADOPTION OF PROPOSED REGIONAL GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION REDUCTION |
Comment | Dear Board Members: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to this important subject. I live in Redondo Beach, Ca. and have watched & read how the use of trucks in the harbor area of Long Beach has been held under close scrutiny regarding emissions. I want to see this continued and other green house ideas used in all our urban areas for the benefit of city dwellers. In Redondo we have natural gas vehicles cleaning our streets and Torrance has low emission busses...a step in the right direction. I inquired into putting solar panels on my home. It is not possible for me as a retired home owner to afford this and I am very disappointed that this is not more feasable. If all our commercial building that are in the city and at least 1/2 of the homes, it would make a big difference in cost to run our businesses and it would take the pressure off the delivery system during peak hours. This would take the pressure off the power plants to supply electricity by burning gas. Batteries now are becoming more efficient to maintain the electricity for the evening hours. Many small businesses are closed down in the evening using only at night. I was very disappointed in the problem that one of our L.A. Colleges had a problem when they initiated a method of saving millions of dollars of electrical cost only to have their hands tied by P G and E their power supplier because they had a contract to buy their power only from PB&E. I don't know how that turned out, but these are the things that keep us from moving ahead. A private company installed the solar and was going to sell the electricity supplied by the solar panels and in 6 years it would belong to them. I saw this done in Fresno, Ca. and it was the parking lot for one of their community buildings. All our parking lots should be like this. What a difference it would make. Let's make it happen. |
