To Whom it may concern,

As the CA Air Quality Resources Board, you are scheduled to vote
later this month on a ruling to strengthen our state's air
standards - with a particular emphasis on control of air pollution
from construction equipment. California has become the leader, as
a state, in the battle to win back the quality of our air, our
water, and our oceans. You have a unique opportunity to further
that cause by enforcing/endorsing stricter controls over
construction equipment exhaust. As I am sure you are aware,
construction equipment is the second largest source of diesel
exhaust pollution in the state. It contributes 20% of the
particulate matter and 16% of the NOx (nitrogen oxides) - the two
biggest pollution hazards to public health in the state.

This kind of pollution can contibute to and indeed cause a miriad
of helth problems including asthma, lung infections, bronchitis
and even heart attacks. Each of these in turn contributes to
thousands of cumulative days missed from school and work due to
illness. This type of exhaust is bad for health and bad for our
economy. It must be controlled and regulated more strictly.

Please therefore do all in your power to impose stricter
regulations on California's construction equipment exhausts. I am
wholeheartedly in support of stronger air standards for
California's construction equipment.

Sincerely, Thomas Dadant, Santa Cruz, CA
