Subject | May 24 regulation of construction equipment |
Comment | California should have the first rule in the nation to curtail the significant diesel particulate matter and other pollutants from construction equipment. This is the second largest source of diesel pollution in the state. Particulate matter (soot) and smog-forming Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) are two of the biggest pollution hazards for public health in California and throughout the country. There are many studies documenting the numerous non-cancer negative health effects of these pollutants. These health impacts result in tens of thousands of premature deaths in the U.S., as well as hospital admissions, emergency room visits, absences from school or work, and restricted activities related to asthma attacks. It is particularly important to the children and elderly in California that strong measures are taken to reduce significantly these pollutants. |
