Subject | Promote clean diesel in California |
Comment | Diesel engines are inherently more efficient and although high sulfur diesel fuel prohibited clean technologies that has changed as refineries are now providing a cleaner fuel that opens up the way for clean diesel engines. Mercedes, Volkswagen and other manufacturers are now marketing clean diesel engines. It is time to stop prohibiting diesel engines from being marketed in California. Diesel engines are well adapted to using biodiesel and vegetable oil and as such are in the best position to help advance the best biofuels. Biofuels can be created using algae grown from sewage. A company in New Zealand is already producing bio fuels using this technology. A study conducted at the University of New Hampshire a couple of years ago concluded that algae based bio fuels could fuel the entire US transportation industry. I drive a VW Jetta TDI and use 100% biodiesel made from recycled vegetable oils that have previously been used in restaurants or other food factories. It required no modification to the engine and burns much cleaner than petro diesel. It can be mixed in any ratio with petro diesel so it is easy to handle road trips where I may not be able to find biodiesel. |
