Subject | Air Pollution Health Crisis |
Comment | Residents of the South Coast Air Basin are exposed to 82% of the state-wide exposure and 52% of the national exposure of PM 2.5 above the federal health-based standards. Air pollution is responsible for 5400 premature deaths, 2400 hospitalizations and 980 000 lost work days annually. These are CARB data and they demonstrate the severity of the crisis facing us here in Southern California. CARB staff has thoroughly reviewed the 2007 AQMP since October 2006 and THERE IS NO EXCUSE to postpone adoption of these pollution control measures. I urge you strongly to take immediate action and adopt the AQMP without delay! |
