Comment | Mary D. Nichols, Chair California Air Resources Board 1001 I Street Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Southern California Consolidation Project’s Site Location Chair Nichols: Please accept this letter as my strongest recommendation for ARB’s Southern California Consolidation Project to be relocated within the City of Pomona. As an advocate for our ARB employee’s families in Covina and the greater San Gabriel Valley moving these 400 employees and their families 40-50 more miles away would not only cause a negative economic effect to our region, but would place stress between families to uproot their lives. Less time with family, more time in their cars and in traffic, and possible lower morale. As much as 400 jobs will be lost within the San Gabriel Valley to Riverside County which will directly affected the vast majority of those who live in the region and within Covina. With skilled labor force along with the economic development components around 400 jobs such as housing, retail, spousal jobs need to remain in LA County. For these reasons, I strongly encourage ARB to adopt the Staff Report recommendation; it makes economic and operational sense from multiple angles and it is consistent with the will of your employees. I look forward to hearing the results of the March 17th Board meeting and sincerely hope that ARB will remain in LA County. If you need additional information, please contact myself oat 626-214-8586 Sincerely, Jorge Marquez Covina City Councilmember |
