Subject | Diesel pollution impact on health of Californians |
Comment | To Whom it may concern; I am a healthcare professional, a clinical pharmacist and among my duties I take care of people with asthma and other lung diseases as well as heart disease. I am writing to express my deep concern about the negative health impact of diesel pollution from trucks, buses and boats. I sincerely urge the California Air Resources Board to adopt the strongest regulations possible to clean up diesel particulate matter in California. This particulate matter is a major contributor to asthma, cancer and heart disease, resulting in thousands of premature deaths every year in the general public and also almost doubles truck driver's lifetime risk of developing lung cancer. Diesel pollution is ugly, smells bad, and it is expensive, increasing medical costs for individuals, insurers, increases disability costs, and cost in time lost from work, as well as quality of life. We can't continue to live in the past by allowing continuation of conditions forcing these illnesses on the public. We simply cannot afford not to protect the health of Californians. |
