Who NOW is killing the Electric Car!?

Why are CARB staff proposing to cut the target number of ZEV's in
2012 from 0.4% to 0.04%?

The ZEV goals were once 2% in 1998, 3% in 2001, and 10% in 2003,
but later CARB put off clean air progress for 14 years until 2012.
As that date draws near, The new target does not even approach the
number of vehicles you have previously shown to be possible.

The EV-1 was considered viable by the people that drove it back in
1998. Li-ON batteries are lighter, with increased capactity
compared to the Lead-Acid batteries in GM's EV-1, and they're
becoming more affordable all the time.

Today we have better technology and significantly raised consumer
awareness, so there is no excuse for this backsliding. I ask that
you put 25,000 pure ZEVs on California's roads between 2012 and
2014. That is one fifth of the 1998 goal, but at least it is a
start. Staff's proposed 840 vehicles a year is an insult. You MUST
do better.

Look, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley north of LA in the
1960's. Myself like so many others would run out to the
playground at recess, and find ourselves dealing with sharp pains
in our chests due to the heavy smog. I couldn't even get a full
breath! Something has to be done. This is a health and
well-being issue, as well as a US Security issue. Oil demand
makes us weak.

As Governor of California, you have the ability to do what
California does BEST! Set the Trend! Make California's air clean
and breathable by investing your power in the all-important ZEV
technology, Electric Cars!!! You've got a Tesla, for crying out
loud. Make your stand and do the right thing.

Thank you.
