Subject: Proceeds from the Cap and Trade program
Comment:
As a concerned California citizen, I believe the majority of the
proceeds from the Cap and Trade program should be invested in
transitioning the state transportation system from a road centric
and car centric system to one that prioritizes public
transportation and alternative modes of transportation, such as
bike commuting and walking. I believe that by investing in
relatively inexpensive improvements, such as complete streets and
separated bike lanes, the State can help entice people from their
cars and into lower cost modes. Investment in better public
transportation would do the same. Investments in Bus Rapid Transit
and light rail would make commuting easier and cheaper for
California citizens in the long run. Spending money on widening
freeways and upgrading roads for more cars is a waste - California
should use this opportunity to get ahead of the curve and move
beyond the single user automobile.
