Subject: Cancel the Rice Cultivation Projects Compliance Offset Protocal

I am writing to ask the California Air Resources Board to please cancel the Rice Cultivation Projects Compliance Offset Protocol and all existing and proposed Compliance Offset Protocols under the Cap-and-Trade Regulation. Offsets are a false solution to climate change and must be excluded from California’s Global Warming Solutions Act AB32. If applied on a massive scale, genetically modified REDD Rice could contaminate rice farmers’ lands and seeds with enormous adverse environmental, social and cultural consequences. The policies that California needs to fight the current climate chaos must not merely see trees, agriculture, plants, algae, soils and Life as commodities for cash and carbon speculation.
