Meeting of the Scientific Review Panel on Toxic Air Contaminants: May 16, 2008 9:00 am in San Francisco. TIME: 9:00 am DATE: May 16, 2008 LOCATION: Holiday Inn San Francisco International Airport North 275 South Airport Boulevard South San Francisco, California 94080 Tel: (650) 873-3566 For the full view of the Notice of Public Meeting, please go to: http://www.arb.ca.gov/srp/srpmeetings.htm AGENDA 1. Discussion of the Panel’s findings relating to the approved report, “Endosulfan Risk Characterization Document” (revised February 2008) In its February meeting, the Panel approved the Department of Pesticide Regulation’s (DPR) draft report that proposed to identify endosulfan as a toxic air contaminant. The Panel will deliberate and discuss its findings which are to be submitted to the DPR Director. Endosulfan is a broad-spectrum non-systemic insecticide and acaricide used to control insects in a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, cotton, and tea, as well as ornamental shrubs, vines, and trees. http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/empm/pubs/tac/draftrcd.htm (Transcript of the Feb., 28, 2008 meeting is available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/srp/srpmeetings.htm) 2. Continuation of the Panel’s review of the draft report “Air Toxics Hot Spots Risk Assessment Guidelines - Technical Support Document for the Derivation of Noncancer Reference Exposure Levels” (April 2008). The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will continue presenting its report from the February meeting, describing the methodology used in developing acute, 8-hour, and chronic health protective levels (reference exposure levels[RELs]) used in non-cancer risk assessments. Pursuant to Health and Safety Code section 44360 (b) (2), OEHHA must develop health risk assessment guidelines under the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program. This report replaces and updates previous acute and chronic Technical Support Documents and addresses the mandate under the Children’s Environmental Health Protection Act (SB 25, Escutia, 1999; Health and Safety Code sections 39669.5 et seq.) to ensure that risk assessment methods adequately protect infants, children, and other sensitive subpopulations. The Panel will also review OEHHA’s recommendations for six proposed RELs: acetaldehyde, acrolein, arsenic, formaldehyde, manganese, and mercury. This report details new guidelines and health protective levels for these compounds. http://www.oehha.ca.gov/air/hot_spots/tsd042408.html (Transcript of the Feb., 28, 2008 meeting is available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/srp/srpmeetings.htm) 3.
