OPINION: U.S., China And Climate Change. At the U.N., Beijing
commits to strict greenhouse gas restrictions, while President
Obama offers lofty rhetoric and little detail. Even if the United
States is gradually losing its status as the world's economic,
diplomatic and military superpower, there is one category in
which, as of Tuesday, it has emerged as the undisputed No. 1: We
are the most environmentally irresponsible nation on Earth.

At U.N., Obama Asks Leaders To Set Aside 'Anti-Americanism'.
Obama says opposition to the U.S. has served as an 'excuse for
our collective inaction' on matters such as nuclear disarmament,
climate change and Middle East peace. In a sweeping call for
international cooperation, President Obama this morning
challenged world leaders to set aside "an almost reflexive
anti-Americanism" and work together with him and other nations on
common goals such as nuclear disarmament, climate change and
Middle East peace. Posted.

U.S., China Vow Fast Action On Climate Change. United Nations -
-- President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao each vowed
urgent action Tuesday to cool an overheating planet, even as
prospects dimmed for a full treaty by the end of the year. The
world's two biggest greenhouse-gas polluting nations were the
focus at the U.N.'s unprecedented daylong climate change summit,
which drew more than 50 presidents and 35 prime ministers, along
with many environment ministers and at least one prince. Posted.

Obama Pleads For Harder Work On Climate Change. President Barack
Obama has implored world leaders to confront climate change,

the planet. Appearing before global leaders gathered at the

climate change cannot be denied - and our responsibility to meet
it must not be deferred." Posted.

Analysis: Time Grows Short For Climate Deal. United Nations—The
man from the middle of the Indian Ocean, from one of the tiniest
of nations, told his fellow presidents he knew "you are not
really listening." But a desperate Mohammed Nasheed of the
Maldives, a scattering of islands amid the rising seas of global
warming, took to the podium nonetheless at Tuesday's U.N. climate
summit to urge his global neighbors, after "20 years of
complacency," to "seize the historic opportunity that sits at the
end of the road to Copenhagen." Posted.

Greenland—With whale fins splashing in the distance, Ruth Curry

EV ‘Charging Corridor’ Links L.A. and San Francisco. Forget
about California’s long-promised hydrogen highway. A solar power
company has joined a regional bank to create an “electric
highway” of quick-charge stations linking San Francisco and Los
Angeles. It is believed to be the first network of its kind in
the country, and electric vehicle advocates said it could spur
the adoption of cars with cords in California. Posted.

Tesla Motors Co-Founders Settle Lawsuit. The electric car
maker's chief executive, Elon Musk, and former CEO Martin
Eberhard end their feud. Details of the agreement are not
disclosed. Good news, alternative vehicle fans. The Hatfields and
McCoys of the electric propulsion world have settled their feud
over who can be called a founder of the company. After months of
legal wrangling, Tesla Motors Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk and
former Chief Executive Martin Eberhard have agreed that they,
along with three others, are officially equals and co-founders of
the company that makes the $109,000 Tesla roadster. Posted.

Neighbor’s Open Door A Boon To Nevada. Nevada’s renewable energy
industry is breathing a sigh of relief after attempts by
California’s legislature to ban renewable energy imports were
smacked down by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Last week he scuttled
attempts by his state’s legislature to require California
utilities to acquire all or most of their renewable energy from
plants in California. The Governator’s Sept. 15 executive order
also, in effect, mandated that his state’s utility companies
acquire 33 percent of their energy from renewable sources by
2020. Posted.

Charging-Station Network Built Along 101. Say you own a Tesla,
and you're in the mood to take your sleek electric sports car for
a spin down the coast to Los Angeles. Assuming you started in San
Francisco with a fully charged battery, you'd get as far as San
Luis Obispo, or maybe Pismo Beach. Then the battery would die.
Like all electric cars, Tesla's $109,000 roadster is limited by
its range - about 250 miles. So a solar power company and a Dutch
bank have teamed up to build five recharging stations for Teslas
along Highway 101 between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Posted.

Pacific Gas and Electric, a large California utility, said
Tuesday that it is pulling out of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
because it disagrees with the chamber's aggressive opposition to
climate-change legislation. The San Francisco-based company
announced the move on its blog, Next100. Posted.

OPINION: A Secret White House Power Grab Is In Full Swing. It’s
one thing for President Obama to surround himself with the
advisers he’d like to have, but it’s another to bestow on them
sweeping powers to broker secret negotiations and push forward
vast new regulations that could cost American families thousands
of dollars. Cap-and-trade energy tax legislation appears stalled,
at least for now, in the U.S. Senate. But that doesn’t mean the
cap-and-trade energy tax isn’t imminent. Posted.

Where the Wind Blows on China’s Greenhouse Gases. Is President
Hu Jintao’s promise to make a “significant cut” in carbon dioxide
emissions by 2020 just a lot of hot air? While disappointed that
China’s leader didn’t pledge a hard number in his speech before
the U.N. Tuesday, climate activists still think there’s some fire
