California Oks $3M for Oakland Port Truck Clean Up. California’s
government set aside $3 million for grants to help truckers at
the Port of Oakland buy diesel soot filters, which are required
by Jan. 1. The Air Resources Board, part of California’s

Long Beach Study Finds Improved Air Quality. Air pollution at
the Port of Long Beach fell significantly from 2005 to 2008,
according to a new air quality study commissioned by the port.
Diesel particulate matter from ships, trucks, trains and other
port-related sources fell 21 percent over the three-year period,
said the 2008 Air Emissions Inventory. The study also showed a 12
percent decline in smog-forming nitrogen oxides and an 18 percent
drop in sulfur oxides. Greenhouse gases were cut by 7 percent,
the study said. Posted. http://www.joc.com/node/415569

Valley Air Board, AG Differ on Limiting Emissions. The Valley
air board this month adopted California's first guidelines for
greenhouse-gas reduction on new development, but the state
Attorney General's Office questions whether they will hold up in
court. Posted. http://www.fresnobee.com/local/story/1765382.html

Los Altos Looks to Reduce Gas Emissions. While already engaged
in climate-change mitigation activities, the city of Los Altos is

New State Law Will Change St. Helena. Earlier this month local
planners were invited to a presentation in Napa by the
Association of Bay Area Governments to explain the impact of SB
375, passed by the California legislature last year. It is the
law that requires all California regions and communities to have
a Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS), which is: “an
integrated transportation/land use plan that meets the Air
Resources Board targets for green house gas emissions from autos
and light trucks.” Posted.

2009: The Year Climate Change And Global Warming Activists Would
Like To Forget. For those who believe the manmade climate change
theory, the new year cannot get here fast enough. As 2009 comes
to a close, many are faced with the realizations that not only
are they losing in the court of public opinion, the ‘consensus’
about anthropogenic global warming is far from solid. The year
saw preeminent scientists join the chorus of those saying that
other drivers besides man influence the climate, a scandal
erupted that shook the very foundation of climate science and a
much touted climate summit fell into disarray. Posted.

Climate 'progress'. Climate 'progress' What "progress" could
there possibly be? Global warming and cooling have been a parts
of our planet's events since it's inception. It happened
systematically way before the dawn of man and will continue to
take place long after we are gone. There is nothing one can do
about the climate. Posted.

More China Companies Are Going Green. Chinese entrepreneurs and
private citizens are starting to become more active in trying to
address concerns over global warming, a nascent trend that could
have significant long-term impact on the ability of the world's
largest greenhouse-gas emitter to curb its effects on the
climate. Posted.

2010 Should Be a Good Year for Clean Tech. When a Redwood City
company called Codexis disclosed Monday that it had filed
documents in preparation of a Wall Street offering, some people
said, "Co-who?" Codexis is one of those Silicon Valley companies
that might be considered stealthy by accident — deeply scientific
and hard to categorize, it develops biocatalysts to make
pharmaceuticals, chemicals and biofuels. Posted.

Climate Change and All That. The best way to inform a
climate-change denier is to show him the evidence of change. So I
invited U.S. Senator James Hindhoof of Oklahoma to come to Marin
this holiday season to see for himself the results of
human-induced climate change. To my surprise he accepted the
invitation!

Oceans of Acid. It may be hard to believe but every gallon of
gas we burn puts about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Fortunately for us, but not for sea life, about
one-fourth of that CO2 finds its way into the ocean. Posted.
