DATE: August 30, 2011 TIME: 10:30 a.m. LOCATION: California Environmental Protection Agency Sierra Hearing Room, 2nd Floor 1001 I Street Sacramento, California 95814 (916) 323-8711 http://www.calepa.ca.gov/EPAbldg/location.htm AGENDA— 1. Continuation of the Panel’s review of proposed acute, 8-hour, and chronic Reference Exposure Levels for caprolactam (July 2011) The Panel will continue its review of the proposed reference exposure levels (RELs) for caprolactam. RELs are concentrations in air at or below which noncancer adverse health effects are not expected to occur, even in sensitive members of the general population. Once finalized and adopted by the Director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), the summary will become part of Appendix D to the “Air Toxics Hot Spots Risk Assessment Guidelines Technical Support Document for the Derivation of Noncancer Reference Exposure Levels.” State law (Health and Safety Code section 44360 (b)(2)) requires that OEHHA develop these health risk assessment guidelines for the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program. http://www.oehha.ca.gov/air/chronic_rels/072911RELs.html 2. Continuation of the Panel’s review of proposed acute, 8-hour, and chronic Reference Exposure Levels for nickel and nickel compounds (July 2011) The Panel will continue its review of the proposed RELs for nickel and nickel compounds. As noted above, once finalized and adopted by the OEHHA Director, the summary will become part of Appendix D to the “Air Toxics Hot Spots Risk Assessment Guidelines Technical Support Document for the Derivation of Noncancer Reference Exposure Levels.” http://www.oehha.ca.gov/air/chronic_rels/072911RELs.html 3. Consideration of administrative matters. The Panel may discuss various administrative matters and scheduling of future meetings. THE AGENDA ITEMS LISTED ABOVE MAY BE CONSIDERED IN A DIFFERENT ORDER AT THE MEETING INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC REVIEW PANEL The Scientific Review Panel (Panel) is charged with evaluating the risk assessments of substances proposed for identification as toxic air contaminants by the Air Resources Board (ARB), the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), and the review of guidelines prepared by OEHHA. In carrying out this responsibility, the Panel reviews the exposure and health assessment reports and underlying scientific data on which the reports are based, which are prepared by the ARB, DPR, and OEHHA pursuant to Health and Safety Code sections 39660 39661, 39669.5 and 44360, and Food and Agricultural Code sections 14022-14023. These reports are prepared for the purpose of determining whether a substance or pesticide should be identified as a toxic air contaminant, or as guidelines to be used in preparing health risk assessments. The Panel welcomes written comments or submissions from all parties regarding a report, but does not accept oral comments from the public at its meetings. Although written comments are accepted up to the day of a scheduled meeting, to assure adequate review the Panel requests that written comments and information be submitted to the Panel Liaison (contact information below), preferably, no later than two weeks prior to a scheduled meeting.
