Statewide high school competition takes on climate change

April 2 deadline fast approaching

SACRAMENTO - The Air Resources Board is reminding state high
schools and youth groups of the April 2, 2012 deadline for
participation in the second annual Climate Generation Program, a
high school competition challenging students to connect
environmental school work with their daily lives and reduce their
greenhouse gas emissions.

The competition creates an opportunity for students to gain
real-world experience in climate action by working together as a
team to design and set in place a project that reduces their
school or community’s carbon footprint.

The Climate Generation Program is designed to encourage young
people to engage in climate change issues at local, national and
international levels.

High schools and youth groups in California are eligible to
participate in the 2011-2012 Climate Generation Program. The
project must benefit the school or community and relate to one or
more of the following topic areas:

    Energy Conservation
    Renewable Energy
    Water Conservation
    School Operations (e.g., purchasing, recycling/waste
reduction, landscaping, etc.)
    Awareness/Communication (Outreach)
