arbcombo -- New Light Weight Vehicle Studies Posted: 05 Oct 2012 15:50:16
The Air Resources Board has posted the results of a recent study demonstrating the crashworthiness of a lightweight vehicle. The study, “Evaluating the Structure and Crashworthiness of a 2020 Model-Year, Mass-Reduced Crossover Vehicle Using FEA Modeling,” was conducted by Lotus Engineering Inc., under contract with the Air Resources Board, and confirms that vehicle mass can be significantly reduced without impacting safety. The study is the most comprehensive study of its kind to date and stands as an important body of work on vehicle lightweighting. Included with the report are a USEPA contracted peer review and Lotus’ responses to the peer review. The study can be accessed at http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/levprog/leviii/leviii.htm.
