carpa -- Air Quality Impacts from the Carstens Fire
Posted: 20 Jun 2013 16:42:08
Smoke impacts are much reduced from the Carstens Fire as containment reaches 60%. Communities in Mariposa and Madera counties and Yosemite National Park were impacted by heavy smoke in the first few days of the Carstens Fire in the Sierra National Forest. As a result, Mariposa County and the San Joaquin Valley Air District requested ARB deploy monitors to measure wildfire smoke in Bootjack, Oakhurst, Mariposa, and Bass Lake. The highest smoke concentrations have been occurring from midnight to 6am in all locations as smoke settles into low laying areas overnight. Day time averages have been moderate or better. CARPA's mission is to provide actionable incident response information to protect public health and the environment from the impacts of accident or deliberate releases of hazardous compounds into the air.
