arbcombo -- Update related to the Proposed 2010 Commitments
Posted: 27 Jan 2014 11:24:35
The Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) staff has posted an update related to the proposed 2010 Commitments to reduce the health risk in communities near four high priority railyards in the South Coast Air Basin. Specifically, the Executive Officer has decided not to approve the Commitments because there have been several developments that provide a more holistic path for reducing emissions from railroad operations. ARB’s Railyard Commitments website can be found: http://www.arb.ca.gov/railyard/commitments/commitments.htm If you have questions on the 2010 Commitments, please contact Harold Holmes, Manager, Rail Strategies Section, at (916) 324-8029 or hholmes@arb.ca.gov. Diesel exhaust contains a variety of harmful gases and more than 40 other known cancer-causing compounds. In 1998, California identified diesel particulate matter as a toxic air contaminant based on its potential to cause cancer, premature death, and other significant health problems.
