Does Carbon Capture Plan Bring The Dream Of Clean Coal Closer?
Given the continued dominance of coal in the energy mix,
particularly in fast-growing emerging giants such as China and
India, carbon capture and storage (CCS) could be the most
important technology in the fight against climate change in the
near term. So it is great news that the world's first
commercial CCS plant has been inaugurated at the Boundary Dam
power...

CLIMATE CHANGE

Obama and Modi reach climate agreement
...creating a binding climate deal next year, a joint statement
from the two nations said. US president Barack Obama and
Indian prime minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks in
Washington, DC, yesterday, at which they recognised the
importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving
resilience in the face of climate change. Their respective
nations will look forward to a "successful outcome" for climate
action at the 21st Conference of the Parties (Cop 21) in Paris in
December...

Climate Change Could Increase Global Fresh Water: MIT
Water stress — the general scarcity of freshwater for people who
need it — is considered by many scientists as one of the biggest
challenges facing humanity and struggling ecosystems in a world
increasingly affected by climate change. Studies differ on how
much the world's growing population will be affected by the
growing difficulty of finding freshwater, but a new report by
researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have
found that climate...

AIR POLLUTION

Cancer risk from air pollution drops in Southern California
Southern Californians' cancer risk from air pollution has dropped
65% since 2005 but is still too high in many areas, regional air
quality regulators said in a report released Thursday. They
attribute much of the improvement to tough state and local
regulations, incentive programs and cleaner fuels that have
slashed diesel emissions from trucks, ships and other vehicles on
freeways and in freight corridors and ports.

Spare the air alert issued for Friday
A Spare the Air alert has been issued for Friday because of
unhealthy ozone pollution expected in the Bay Area, regional air
quality officials said Thursday.

EPA sends California $183 million for more water fixes
With the backdrop of a parched landscape near the San Joaquin
River, a top U.S. Environmental Protection Agency official on
Thursday pledged $183 million to invest in drought-scarred
California's water needs. Cities in California will compete
for the funding to build water-quality projects aimed at reducing
pollution as well as improving municipal drinking water and
wastewater facilities.

Carmakers urge EU regulators to be realistic with emissions
limits
...and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) on Thursday urged European
regulators not to overburden the industry with excessive emission
targets, especially in times of an economic downturn. EU
nations have agreed to reduce emissions from new cars to 95 grams
of carbon dioxide per kilometre (g/km) by 2021 from around 127
g/km in 2013. Volkswagen Group Chief Executive Martin
Winterkorn said he was concerned by talk of even tougher targets
for the period after, before the industry had time to develop for

Tesla now has 200 Superchargers open around the world
Oxnard, California. That's where electric-vehicle enthusiasts can
find Tesla Motors' 200th Supercharger station. And they should be
able to find some pretty good surf nearby, too. Number 200 is
located in a shopping mall near Highway 101 about 60 miles
northwest of central Los...

GREEN ENERGY

OSU researchers build rechargeable solar battery
Researchers at Ohio State University say they've invented the
first rechargeable solar battery. The researchers say the new
battery could make solar energy more affordable and open the door
for its widespread use as a sustainable power source. Solar
panels generate energy from the sun that must be stored in
expensive batteries in order for it to be sustainable. The OSU
researchers say...

OPINION

Moving toward a sustainable energy supply
The recent announcement by University of California President
Janet Napolitano of the 80 megawatt solar project east of Fresno
represents a strong commitment by the UC to slow climate change.
Producing electricity from solar directly affects the need to
extract and burn an equivalent amount of fossil fuels, and
reduces emissions of carbon dioxide – the main greenhouse gas
responsible for enhanced climate...

A Change in the Climate
...(or, as we say today, having grown more polite, “asks”); each
of them a culture, or an intertwined set of cultures; each of
them a political force in the broadest as well as the narrowest
sense; each generating the wildest hopes and deepest
disappointments. Climate change is now one of them: a burgeoning
social fact. The extraordinary range, age, and diversity
exhibited in the People's Climate March -- race, class, sex, you
name it, and if you were there, you saw it -- changes the game.

Well Said! Carbon Dioxide Made Simple -- and Personal
Burning fossil fuels. Rising atmospheric CO2 levels. Global
warming. The 1-2-3 of climate change. As the GEICO ads say
"everybody knows that!" But surveys suggest that, in fact, many
people don't understand this simple relationship. For example,
the Yale Project on Climate Communication's...

changes in the global program where no one is responding to all
the pollution that is getting put out there now they're thinking
that gas is going to be the answer, and gas is not the answer
with methane, and people have got to realize we got to go solar.
I'm also really pleased with the turnout today. This turnout is
phenomenal, people from all over the country: California, Texas,
I met people from Nevada. People are saying enough is enough,...

the power when all the devices plugged in are turned off,
preventing devices from sucking power while they are in standby
mode. Check out this infographic by the Department of Energy's
