AIR POLLUTION

How China can tackle air pollution
China and the U.S. recently announced a substantial policy down
payment on tackling greenhouse gas emissions in Beijing. Related
air pollution problems in China are literally breathtaking: My
eyes watered and I was coughing all week during the APEC summit,
even though the smog was less than usual because the government
had ordered half the cars off the road and shut down some of the
most polluting factories and power plants to "clear" the air for
the Summit.

Claim: There is natural gas fracking in the Delta now
Nicki Suard, owner of SnugHarbor Resort on Steamboat Slough in
the California Delta and a retired attorney, contends there is
fracking occurring in the Delta. “It is happening right now,”

Environmental Stability of Clarksburg, better known by its
acronym, North Delta CARES.

CLIMATE CHANGE
Australia, China agree on climate action policy
Australia and China have signed an initial deal to co-operate on
tackling the effects of climate change through advancing energy
efficiency, low emissions technology co-operation and improving

EPA chief: Greenhouse gas cuts won't all come from power plants
The ambitious reductions to greenhouse gases that President Obama
pledged in China last week will not lead to deeper emissions cuts
at power plants, according to Environmental Protection Agency
Administrator Gina McCarthy. At a Beijing summit where China and
the United States unveiled plans to address climate change, Obama
said that by 2025, the United States would curb its heat-trapping
emissions by 26% to 28% from 2005 levels.

After U.S.-China Pact, Will the World Pick a Peak Carbon Date?
Last week, the world's two biggest greenhouse gas emitters,
accounting for 40% of global emissions, signed an accord on
improving their polluting ways. The U.S. said it would reduce
emissions by as much as 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025,
while China said its emissions would...

VEHICLES

A Road Test of Alternative Fuel Visions
Remember the hydrogen car? A decade ago, President George W.
Bush espoused the environmental promise of cars running on
hydrogen, the universe’s most abundant element. “The first car
driven by a child born today,” he said in his 2003 State of the
Union speech, “could be powered by hydrogen, and
pollution-free.”

VW bringing fuel cell concept to LA Auto Show
Surprise Entry Into The Show's Green Theme This Year Amid the
flurry of hydrogen announcements from Toyota and Honda last
night, Volkwagen has something to add: a new hydrogen fuel cell
concept vehicle. This will be the first VW hydrogen fuel cell
vehicle in many years – remember...

The Most Fuel-Efficient Cars For The Money
Search the Environmental Protection Agency's fuel economy
database as we have and you'll find that 18 out of the 20 cars
with the highest fuel economy ratings for the 2015 model year are
either costly plug-in hybrids or full-blown electric cars. At
that, the remaining two models are hybrids that still command
stiff price premiums over conventionally powered models. But
what about good old-fashioned cars powered by internal combustion
engines with nary an added kilowatt...

GREEN ENERGY

Huge solar plant lags in early production
The largest solar power plant of its type in the world — once
promoted as a turning point in green energy — isn't producing as
much energy as planned. One of the reasons is as basic as it
gets: The sun isn't shining as much as expected.
Sprawling...

Peru Prepares to Host Climate Talks as its Indigenous Forest
Defenders Die
The nonprofit group Global Witness makes some valuable points in

Obesity Is Tied to Pollutants
Exposure to secondhand smoke and roadway traffic may be tied to
increased body mass index in children and adolescents, a new
study suggests. Researchers studied 3,318 children in 12
Southern California communities beginning at an average age of
10, and then followed them through age 18. Posted.
