arbcombo -- Public Workshop to Discuss a Proposed Regulation to Reduce Methane Emissions from Oil and Natural Gas Operations
Posted: 25 Nov 2014 17:33:26
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff invites you to participate in a public workshop regarding ARB’s proposed regulation to reduce methane emissions from oil and natural gas production, processing, transmission (compressor stations) and storage operations, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Staff will present regulatory approaches, estimated cost impacts, and emission estimates as well as discuss plans to complete an environmental analysis for the proposed regulation, and seek input on that analysis, including on potential environmental impacts and alternatives to be considered. Furthermore, ARB is requesting public input and soliciting alternatives relating to economic impacts to analyze in its Standardized Regulatory Impact Analysis under Senate Bill 617 (Chapter 496, Statutes of 2011). Staff will solicit stakeholder and public feedback during and after the workshop. The workshop will be held at the following time and location: DATE: December 9, 2014 TIME: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. LOCATION: Coastal Hearing Room, Second Floor ADDRESS: Cal/EPA Headquarters Building 1001 "I" Street Sacramento, California 95814 This Workshop will be webcast. You may access the webcast at http://www.calepa.ca.gov/broadcast/?BDO=1. During the webcast, we will accept feedback and questions sent via email to coastalrm@calepa.ca.gov. You may participate in this workshop by teleconference by dialing 888-673-9785 (for domestic) or 1-630-395-0195 (for international), give the participant code: 8808791 and leader name: Ms. Elizabeth Scheehle. Please note that if you call internationally, it is a toll call. The full notice and staff presentations and additional information will be available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/oil-gas/oil-gas.htm. If you have any questions regarding this meeting, please contact Ms. Johanna Levine, Air Pollution Specialist, Emerging Technology Section, at (916) 322-3499 or via email at jlevine@arb.ca.gov. Background: The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) establishes a comprehensive program of regulatory and market mechanisms to achieve real, cost-effective, and quantifiable reductions of greenhouse gases (GHG) with a target of reducing GHG emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Control of GHG emissions, especially methane emissions, from crude oil and natural gas operations—including production, processing, storage operations, and well stimulation—is critical to achieving this target. California is in a drought emergency. Visit www.SaveOurH2O.org for water conservation tips.
