arbcombo -- Public Workshop to Discuss a Proposed Regulation to Reduce Methane Emissions from Oil and Natural Gas Operations

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 17:33:26
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff invites you to
participate in a public workshop regarding ARB’s proposed
regulation to reduce methane emissions from oil and natural gas
production, processing, transmission (compressor stations) and
storage operations, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Staff will
present regulatory approaches, estimated cost impacts, and
emission estimates as well as discuss plans to complete an
environmental analysis for the proposed regulation, and seek
input on that analysis, including on potential environmental
impacts and alternatives to be considered. Furthermore, ARB is
requesting public input and soliciting alternatives relating to
economic impacts to analyze in its Standardized Regulatory Impact
Analysis under Senate Bill 617 (Chapter 496, Statutes of 2011).
Staff will solicit stakeholder and public feedback during and
after the workshop.

The workshop will be held at the following time and location:

DATE: December 9, 2014

Background: The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006
(AB 32) establishes a comprehensive program of regulatory and
market mechanisms to achieve real, cost-effective, and
quantifiable reductions of greenhouse gases (GHG) with a target
of reducing GHG emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Control of GHG
emissions, especially methane emissions, from crude oil and
natural gas operations—including production, processing, storage
operations, and well stimulation—is critical to achieving this
target.
