LUMBER LIQUIDATORS

KD Investigators: Advice To Buyers Of Lumber Liquidators
Flooring. Like dozens of other people who have called our
newsroom, Meghan Lopresti wants know if the laminated flooring
she bought from Lumber Liquidators is safe. “It’ll always be in
the back of my head,” she said. “I have two small children
another one on the way and this could cause childhood cancer.
That’s not something that any parent should have to deal with.”

Safety agency to announce potential Lumber Liquidators action.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is expected to announce
Tuesday what action it’s taking regarding the Chinese-made

federal agency has asked for results of its tests on the flooring
of the Toano, Va.-based company. The agency stopped short of
saying it was investigating the company on Monday afternoon but
promised full details soon.

CLIMATE CHANGE

California Moves With Chinese Provinces On Climate. When China
and the United States announced their Climate Pact to great
fanfare last November, the bilateral pledge’s talk of
“contributions” shifted the conversation from shared commitments
to “common but differentiated responsibilities”: the idea that
historical economic differences leads to different
responsibilities to tackle climate change today.

Florida's Not The Only State Where Officials Censored The Term
‘Climate Change.'	Censoring "climate change" is not unusual -- at

Florida scientist told to remove words ‘climate change’ from
study on climate change. …But then, on Jan. 27, a message popped
into her inbox. Subject: “Paper Review.” And Radke realized she
wasn’t through with Florida yet. In fact, she was about to get
dragged into what has now become a national scandal over an
alleged “unwritten policy” among some Florida state environmental
offices that forbids the use of terms such as “climate change”
and “global warming” in official correspondence.

Florida Gov. Scott Denies Banning Phrase 'Climate Change.'
Florida Gov. Rick Scott denied allegations from a report that
made national headlines this week with claims that his
administration banned use of the terms "climate change" and
"global warming" in official documents and speeches. Scott — an
open skeptic of climate change — made the denials Monday in
response to the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting's
report, which quoted former employees and contractors who said
they were told not to use the terms.

DIESEL ACTIVITIES

West Sacramento firm’s heavy-duty equipment goes on auction
block. Shopping for a massive Caterpillar tractor? Or an
articulated dump truck? Wednesday, those are among more than
2,000 pieces of heavy-duty construction equipment and other items
going up for auction in Dunnigan, part of a routine Ritchie Bros.
Auctioneers sale of used equipment. But the auction is anything
but routine for Craig Hobday, owner and president of Compaction
Rentals in West Sacramento. For him, it’s the end of an era.

Farmers Put Down the Plow for More Productive Soil. ….In turn,
more absorbent soil is less vulnerable to runoff and more
resistant to droughts and floods. Cover crops also help suppress
weeds. Environmental groups like the Defense Council have long
been fans of soil-conservation techniques because they help
protect waterways and increase the ability of soil to store
carbon dioxide, rather than releasing it into the air, where it
contributes to climate change.

OPINION

Lumber Liquidators is surging after an infamous short-selling
firm uses logic to explain why the company isn't screwed.
Influential short-seller Citron Research says in a new note that
the sell-off in the hardwood-floor retailer Lumber Liquidators
may be "largely overdone." Since a troubling "60 Minutes"
investigative report on the company aired March 1, shares have
collapsed about 40%. On Tuesday they were trading up more than
10%, or $2.80, at about $30.75.

Mercury News editorial: California urban water users must get
serious about conservation. California is in the midst of its
fourth consecutive drought year, and based on a new study by
Stanford scientists, it appears to be a long-time weather
pattern. The December downpours were just a nice distraction. The
state has to get serious about conserving water. Suggestions are
not enough.
