Pope Francis. "Pope Francis' call to action on climate change is

Pope condemns global warming’s snake oil
The most interesting thing about Pope Francis’s 184-page
encyclical on climate change released Thursday is its unequivocal
and accurate condemnation of the modern day snake oil known as
“carbon credits.” Indeed, self-described “green” politicians
praising the Pope’s words, might first want to read what he
actually said.

Pope challenges world to clean up its filth
Pope Francis' plea to make the state of the environment a central
moral issue of our age has been greeted with applause from

Pope’s Encyclical Makes Grade in Climate Science
When it comes to the science of climate change, Pope Francis’
environmentally focused encyclical makes the grade, experts said
Thursday. Francis makes clear in the document that humanity bears
most of the blame for the warming of the planet and he lays out
the main findings of climate science –

DROUGHT

Water wars in California's coastal wine country
By most measures, California's Central Coast wine industry is
thriving. Between 1990 and 2014, harvested wine grape acreage in
the growing region around Paso Robles nearly quintupled to 37,408
acres, as vintners discovered that the area's rolling hills,
rocky soil and mild climate were perfect for coaxing rich, sultry
flavors from red wine grapes.

Tesla Success Shows 'Weakness' Of CA Zero-Emission Rules, Company
Says
California's zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) rules will become more
stringent soon, extending to more carmakers and requiring more
battery-electric or hydrogen fuel-cell cars to be sold. While the
new set of regulations won't take effect until 2018, carmakers
have already requested changes that could make the rules more
lenient or easier to comply with.

B.C.’s global-warming lesson for Alberta and Ontario
In the coming months, Ontario and Alberta – which produce nearly
two-thirds of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions – will introduce
new rules to lower their carbon output. Will these provinces put
in place policies that deliver the greatest environmental
benefits at the lowest cost, or the opposite?

EDITORIAL: Riverside protects its water
California’s water warriors now turn their dry eyes to city of
Riverside. As part of combating the drought, the California Water
Resources Control Board insists the city cut its water use by 24
percent. Riverside says it only needs to cut 4 percent. To avoid
fines of up to $10,000 a day, earlier this month Riverside sued
the state in Fresno Superior Court.

Planes you can park in your garage. Satellites that fit in your

it's easy to get distracted by the huge aircraft performing
overhead, from thundering fighter jets to the surprising
near-vertical liftoff of a Boeing passenger jet.

WHO Pollution Guidelines Could Save 2.1 Million Lives Per Year
Improved air quality — both in heavily polluted and relatively
clean places — could save millions of lives per year, researchers
report in a new paper. A team of environmental engineering and
public health researchers designed a model to quantify how
changes in outdoor air pollution levels would affect related
deaths from causes including heart attack, stroke, lung disease,
lung cancer and respiratory infections.
