sore -- TESTING OBSERVATIONS FOR FAILING UNITS IN THE 2013 SMALL OFF-ROAD ENGINE VALIDATION STUDY
Posted: 15 Sep 2015 15:12:09
Subsequent to the Small Off-Road Engine Working Group meeting on September 2, 2015, ARB staff have been asked to share any obvious indicators of failure that were noted on any units included in the 2013 Validation Study. In an effort to provide industry with useful information to assist in identifying the source of problems that led to failure of some equipment in the 2013 Validation Study, Air Resources Board (ARB) staff have shared observations made during testing of units D4 and D18. Test records for other failing equipment have been reviewed for similar observations, and additional observations made during testing are below. Unit D15: A gasoline odor was noted when standing near the unit. The unit was returned to the manufacturer after testing was complete. Unit D16: A puddle of fuel was found under the unit when it was moved after running the engine. Liquid gasoline dripped out of the vapor fuel hose connected to the carbon canister when the carbon canister was disconnected for purging. Photographs of units D4, D16, and D18 showing some of the observations noted will be emailed to working group members separately from this notice. No photographs of unit D15 or any of the remaining failing units were taken to indicate possible sources of failure.
