Hybrid Off-Road Equipment Pilot Project

ARB's $2 million Hybrid Off-Road Equipment Pilot Project is intended to encourage deployment and evaluation of hybrid off-road construction equipment in California.  In June 2011, the University of California Riverside College of Engineering- Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) was selected as the grantee to implement this project, and the project began in July 2011.  The project provides $900,000 on a first-come, first-served basis for California fleets to purchase the hybrid Caterpillar D7E dozer ($75,000 max voucher) or the hybrid Komatsu HB215LC-1 excavator ($28,500 max voucher).  CE-CERT will also be evaluating emission benefits from three pieces of each equipment model.  Next year, ARB will use data from this pilot project to evaluate future spending for hybrid off-road equipment. If the pilot is successful, ARB will consider a more comprehensive hybrid off-road equipment voucher project to encourage broader use of the equipment.
