Subject:	Economic Impact Survey for Large Spark-Ignition Engines Regulations

The staff of the California Air Resources Board (ARB) requests your assistance in obtaining needed data regarding the development of ARB's Large Spark Ignition Engine emission regulations. If you would fill out the attached survey and return it to us at your earliest convenience, I would be most grateful.

The ARB staff is currently developing regulations concerning the establishment of emission standards and related requirements for new spark ignition (SI) engines 25 horsepower and greater for use in certain off-road equipment. A public workshop for this regulatory item was held this past May and the public board hearing has been tentatively set for October 1998. As part of the regulatory process, the ARB is required to consider the economic impacts of any potential regulations on the state's businesses, job market, and economy. For this evaluation, the attached simple survey requests some basic information about your business, including your company's income and the number of Californians you directly employ. Of course, all such information submitted to ARB will be held in the strictest confidence.
