CARB Announces Greenhouse Gas Reductions Continue
The California Air Resources Board says industrial emissions of greenhouse gasses dropped again in 2011, for the third year in a row. This continues California’s “winning streak” in the battle to reduce pollutants. The main contributing factor in the drop was growth in the use of renewable energy. Mandatory reporting of greenhouse gas emissions in California was enacted with the passage of AB 32 in 2006, and ARB began tracking these emissions in 2008. The ultimate goal of AB 32 is to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emission levels to 1990 levels by 2020.
