Serna sworn in as ARB board member
Will represent Sacramento County area
February 20, 2013- Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna joined the California Air Resources Board as its twelfth and newest member today at a ceremony in the Joe Serna Jr. Cal/EPA Headquarters Building, named after Serna’s late father who was mayor of Sacramento from 1992 until his death in 1999.
Serna was appointed to the board on January 30 by Governor Jerry Brown to fill a new seat created by recent legislation authored by Assemblyman Roger Dickinson. Dickinson also administered the oath of office at the swearing in ceremony. Serna’s new seat on the Board will cover the Sacramento Region.
Serna, 44, is from Sacramento and has served as Sacramento County Supervisor since 2010. He was principal at Serna Consulting LLC from 2004 to 2009, project manager at Reynan and Bardis Communities from 2003 to 2004 and vice president of governmental affairs at the Home Builders Association of Northern California, BIA Bay Area from 1996 to 2002. Serna is chair of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and has been a member since 2011. He is a member of the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District, Sacramento Transportation Authority and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments. Serna earned a Masters of Arts degree in city and regional planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
