International Symposium on Near-Term Solutions for
Climate Change Mitigation in California

SACRAMENTO - The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 established a statewide target for greenhouse gas reduction by 2020 and directed the Air Resources Board (ARB) to develop a list of near-term solutions to be implemented by 2010. Pursuant to this directive, the ARB will hold a three-day symposium to explore technologically feasible and cost-effective strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The symposium will promote discussion of new technologies, existing processes and other methods that will reduce in-state emissions of the six major greenhouse gases.

Speakers from the government and private sectors will tackle the emission reduction potential of a given strategy, costs of implementing strategies, and the extent to which the strategy has been successfully demonstrated. Panels will address mitigation of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and gases with high global warming potential (GWP). On the last day, the international portion of the symposium will feature representatives from other countries who will present their programs and participate in a roundtable discussion.
