On March 14,
2008, the U.S.
EPA released its final rulemaking for Category 1 and 2 commercial
marine engines,
which are primarily used in commercial harbor craft.
The regulations apply to newly manufactured diesel engines with displacement less than 30 liters
per
cylinder installed on vessels flagged or registered in the United
States. The regulations also include requirements for Category 1 and 2 remanufactured commercial marine
diesel engines above 600 kilowatt
(kW) or 800 horsepower (hp). Category 3 engines,
which are typically used in ocean-going vessels, are not included in
the rulemaking. |
