Ocean-Going Vessels - Fuel Rule

Background:
This
webpage provides
information regarding a State of California
regulation that requires the use of cleaner marine distillate fuels in
ocean-going vessels that visit California
seaports. The California Air Resources
Board adopted the regulation, “Fuel Sulfur and Other Operation
Requirements for
Ocean-Going Vessels within California Waters and 24 Nautical Miles of
the
California Baseline” on July 24, 2008.
This regulation is designed reduce particulate matter, oxides of
nitrogen, and sulfur oxide emissions from ocean-going vessels;
reductions that
are necessary to improve air quality and public health in California.

advisories (Marine Notices) are being issued as they become available due to recent amendments to the OGV Clean Fuel
Regulation. ARB will begin enforcement of the amendments to the
regulation on December 1, 2011.
