Dear Sir or Madam: Public Workshop to Discuss the Proposed RACT/BARCT Determination The Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) staff will hold an informal public workshop to discuss the Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) and Best Available Retrofit Control Technology (BARCT) determination for stationary spark-ignited internal combustion engines. The RACT/BARCT determination focuses on reducing oxides of nitrogen (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from stationary engines powered by natural gas, waste and digester gases, and gasoline. This is a non-regulatory approach to assist all California districts in determining minimum emission standards for this source category. The proposal presents the basis for the determination, an overview of the control technology, the recommended emission standards, and a discussion of cost-effectiveness. ARB staff will make a short presentation at the workshop, with most of the time open to hear comments, answer questions, and discuss the proposal. The date, time, and location of the workshop is: Tuesday August 29, 2000 The text of the proposed determination can be downloaded from the ARB home page at http://www.arb.ca.gov/ractbarc/ractbarc.htm. Individuals without Internet access may request a hard copy of the proposed determination by calling Ms. Linda Keifer at 323-4327 or via e-mail at lkeifer@arb.ca.gov. We invite your participation in this workshop. We will solicit information and comments from manufacturers, and other members of the public. If you cannot attend the workshop and would like to provide comments or if you have questions regarding this workshop, please call Mr. Winston Potts of the ARB staff at (916) 327-5984.
