| This project developed and demonstrated two series-hybrid electric prototype heavy-duty trucks. The hybrid system consists of a natural gas-fueled engine serving as the auxiliary power unit, lead-acid batteries, and an A/C motor with regenerative braking. The target market is the "local" and "short haul" (i.e., urban) heavy-duty truck segments (26,000 - 80,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight). One truck has since been displayed at heavy-duty truck trade shows as a marketing tool, while the other truck is being used for research purposes. |
