SCIENTIFIC REVIEW PANEL ON TOXIC AIR CONTAMINANTS
NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
The Scientific Review Panel on Toxic Air Contaminants, established pursuant to California Health and Safety Code section 39670, will hold a public meeting at the following time and place:
| DATE: TIME: LOCATION: |
February 1, 2000 9:00 a.m. Millberry Conference Center University of California, San Francisco 500 Parnassus Avenue San Francisco, California 94143-0234 (415) 476-2019 |
—— AGENDA ——
1. Continuation of consideration of draft report: Air Toxics Hot Spots Program Risk Assessment Guidelines, Part III: "Technical Support Document for Determination of Noncancer Chronic Reference Exposure Levels"
Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) staff will present a revised report for the Panel’s approval that addresses 23 of the first 40 chemicals previously reviewed. Part III describes the methods used to determine chronic reference exposure levels, at (or below) which no adverse health effects are anticipated from exposure to the listed chemicals.
2. Update to the Scientific Review Panel on the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program Risk Assessment Guidelines
OEHHA staff will give a brief oral presentation to update the Panel on the overall development
of guidelines to be used in the Air Toxics Hot Spots Information and Assessment Act program (Health & Safety
Code sections 44300 et seq) including the anticipated schedule for completing the remaining guidelines in the five-part
series. In addition, OEHHA staff will briefly introduce "Part IV: Technical Support Document for Exposure
Assessment and Stochastic Analysis" which will be discussed in an upcoming meeting of the Panel.
3. Discussion of possible topics for future "Pesticides in the Air" Panel workshops
The Panel recently completed its findings resulting from workshop sessions conducted in September
1999 when prioritization of pesticidal candidates for introduction into the toxic air contaminant program and air
monitoring of pesticides were discussed. The Panel will discuss possible topics for future workshops.
4. Continuation of consideration of draft report: "The Evaluation of Methyl Isothiocyanate (MITC) as a Toxic Air Contaminant"
Department of Pesticide Regulation staff will continue presenting the draft report followed
by review and discussion by the Panel.
THE AGENDA ITEMS LISTED ABOVE MAY BE CONSIDERED IN A DIFFERENT ORDER AT THE PANEL MEETING
INFORMATION ABOUT
THE SCIENTIFIC REVIEW PANEL
The Scientific Review Panel (Panel) is charged with evaluating the risk assessments of substances proposed for identification as toxic air contaminants by the Air Resources Board (ARB) and the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). In carrying out this responsibility, the Panel reviews the exposure and health assessment reports and underlying scientific data on which the reports are based, which are prepared by the ARB, DPR, and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) pursuant to Health and Safety Code sections 39660-39661 and 44360, and Food and Agricultural Code sections 14022-14023. These reports are prepared for the purpose of determining whether a substance or pesticide should be identified as a toxic air contaminant, or as guidelines to be used in preparing health risk assessments. The Panel welcomes written comments or submissions from all parties regarding a report. To assure adequate review, the Panel does not accept written or oral comments from the public at its meetings; comments and submissions should be submitted to the ARB pursuant to the requirements specified in the notice of availability of a report for public review. These submissions are received and carefully reviewed and considered by the Panel members prior to the public meeting. Transcripts to previously held Panel meetings can be found through the ARB web site www.arb.ca.gov/srp/srp.htm. For further information please contact:
