Scientific Review Panel on Toxic Air Contaminants

This page last reviewed on November 8, 2007.

The Scientific Review Panel (SRP / Panel) is charged with evaluating the risk assessments of substances proposed for identification as toxic air contaminants by the Air Resources Board (ARB) and the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). In carrying out this responsibility, the SRP reviews the exposure and health assessment reports and underlying scientific data upon which the reports are based, which are prepared by the ARB, DPR, and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) pursuant to the sections 39660-39661 of the Health and Safety Code and sections 14022-14023 of the Food and Agriculture Code. These reports are prepared for the purpose of determining whether a substance or pesticide should be identified as a toxic air contaminant. A directory of SRP members can be found at this webpage.

Scientific Review Panel Findings
  • SRP findings on Metam Sodium and other Pesticidal Sources of Methyl Isothiocyanate. The findings were based on the Panel's review of the Department of Pesticide Regulation's draft report titled "Evaluation of Methyl Isothiocyanate (MITC) as a Toxic Air Contaminant" (MSWord 97 - 64KB) (PDF - 33KB) .
  • SRP findings based on our review of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) report "Prioritization of Toxic Air Contaminants under the Children's Environmental Health Protection Act" (MSWord97 - 49 KB) or (PDF - 32KB) .
  • SRP letter to Air Resources Board: "Attachment 1, 'Health Effects of Exposure to Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE)'" January 5, 2000 (MSWord97 - 21 KB) or (PDF - 4KB) .
  • SRP Findings on the Department of Pesticide Regulation's report: "Evaluation of Methyl Parathion as a Toxic Air Contaminant" as adopted at the Panel's September 16, 1999 meeting (MSWord97 - 65KB) or (PDF - 36KB) .
  • SRP Findings on the report: "Evaluation of S,S,S,-Tributyl Phosphorothithioate (DEF) as a Toxic Air Contaminant" as adopted at the Panel's April 13, 1999 meeting (PDF - 27K) .
  • SRP Findings on the report: "Proposed Identification of Diesel Exhaust as a Toxic Air Contaminant" as adopted at the Panel's April 22, 1998 meeting (WP6- 39K) or (PDF - 45K) .
