| This one day course covers the history and applications of surface coatings for both automobiles and metal parts and products. Topics to be covered include a brief history of coatings technology development (and their impacts on air pollution), coating formulation and structure, coating uses, and methods of controlling emissions from coating application such as enclosed spray booths, High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray systems, fluid impingement spray technology (FIT) and good work practices. Students will be introduced to permitting considerations such as Best Available Control Technology discussion, as well as inspection techniques and methods of determining compliance with District rules and regulations. This class will include a field trip at a local automobile or metal parts and products coating operation where topics discussed in class will be observed in practical application. |
